Matthew Austin

As a queer man and experienced counsellor, I provide non-judgemental, caring support tailored to the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ adults. My clients often grapple with self-critical thoughts, feelings of shame, and concerns about authenticity in their personal and professional lives. In our sessions, we work together to explore these concerns, aiming to transform self-criticism into self-compassion and to foster a sense of calm and clarity.

By addressing issues such as the impact of the inner critic and external societal pressures, I support clients in moving from feelings of isolation and being stuck toward meaningful change and self-acceptance. My approach is informed by over a decade of experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, including roles at leading queer organisations in Melbourne, such as Thorne Harbour Health and Queerspace. I utilise therapeutic modalities like Gestalt Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to tailor our work to your needs. I charge $250 for a 60-minute session and offer Medicare rebates. If you’re ready to begin a journey toward self-discovery, accountability and healing, I offer a free 15-minute consultation.
