Denis Hamilton (he/him) is a Naarm/Melbourne-based psychologist living and working on Wurundjeri Country. Warm, gentle, and non-judgemental, he prioritises hope, presence and attunement to deeply understand clients' concerns, while drawing on strengths-based, person-centred, and neuro-affirming approaches to support clientrs in working toward their therapeutic goals.
With a background in private practice, public health, and university counselling, Denis works with people from all walks of life. This includes people of all genders, including trans and gender-diverse individuals; young adults; adults and retirees; working professionals; parents; First Nations peoples; university students (domestic and international); LGBTQIA+ communities; neurodivergent individuals; and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
His therapeutic values are grounded in attachment theory and emphasise compassionate, strengths-based, non-pathologising, and neuro-affirming care. Denis has a particular interest in supporting young adults and individuals from immigrant backgrounds, offering a culturally-safe, trauma-informed, person-centred approach focused on safety, stabilisation, and collaborative growth.
He utilises evidence-based modalities, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS; currently completing Level 1 training); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Motivational Interviewing (MI); polyvagal-informed practice; and play therapy (Denis has trained in facilitating Lego-therapy for neurodivergent children). Across all modalities, Denis holds a strong belief in finding what works for the individual and their goals, and the transformative potential of a trusting and attuned therapeutic relationship.
Outside of the therapy space, Denis is an avid reader, and is passionate about music, film, ideas, culture, history, humour, and backgammon.
